High Risk Pregnancy Management
Every pregnancy involves risk. A "high-risk" pregnancy is one that has higher health risks
for the expectant mother, the fetus, or both. High-risk pregnant women may require more care
before, during, and after giving delivery. This lessens the likelihood of difficulties.
What causes high-risk pregnancy?
Factors that make a pregnancy high risk include:
Preexisting health conditions (Diabetes, Thyroid disorder, Hypertension, Sickle cell disease, Anemia, Malnutrition, severe obesity etc.)
Pregnancy-related health conditions (Gestational diabetes, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension, Intra Uterine Growth Retardation, Rh Incompatibility, infections etc.)
Lifestyle factors (including smoking, drug addiction, alcohol abuse and exposure to certain toxins)
Age (being over 35 or under 17 when pregnant)
